At Joju Solar, we are brand agnostic, meaning that we’re not tied into using specific products or manufacturers when we design and install your solar PV system. As a result, we can ensure that we recommend the best possible solution for your requirements and budget, and are 100% transparent about the products we use for our installations.
If you choose Joju Solar to provide and install your solar PV system, we will discuss the various options available to you to make sure that the products we use are the best possible fit for your specific needs and budget.
SunPower are a company who have been making solar panels for decades. In our years of experience using SunPower panels in many installations, we know that they offer high-quality products that stand the test of time and have greater efficiency than any other panel.
What makes SunPower Solar Panels Different?
If you’ve already decided that you want a solar PV system installed, or your current system updated, choosing which solar panels to use can be a difficult decision. It can come as a surprise to some people that there can be significant differences between different makes and models of solar panel, which will have an impact on the efficiency of your whole solar PV system. Efficiency is a measure of how much sunlight that a solar panel can convert into electricity that can be used by your home or business.
SunPower’s big breakthrough came with the development of the ‘all back contact cell’. Conventional solar cells have collector wires on the front surface to capture the electric current produced. However, these wires cover part of the collector area, reducing the surface exposed to the light. SunPower have developed a cell where both positive and negative collector wires are on the back surface, thereby exposing all of the front of the cell to daylight. It has increased efficiency up to 23% (compared to 16% for a conventional modules).
SunPower solar panels are rigorously tested to ensure they can stand up to the elements anywhere in the UK. From high winds to sea spray, their award-winning panels come with a 25-year product and performance warranty, which is longer than those offered by many other manufacturers.
SunPower currently offer two main types of solar panel, which are outlined below.
SunPower Maxeon Solar Panels
SunPower Maxeon Solar Panels offer a unique design that overcomes many of the reasons why conventional solar panels break or stop working. For this reason, this product is considered to be highly durable and reliable in performance over its lifetime, showing extremely low degradation results in long-term field tests.
The latest generation of this product, the 23% efficient SunPower Maxeon 3, is the first 400W home solar panel, enabling a solar PV system using these panels to generate up to 35% more energy from the same space over the first 25 years of the installation, when compared with conventional solar panels. The greater efficiency of these panels can mean significantly larger savings on energy bills than you would get with most other solar panel manufacturers.
Due to their efficiency ratings and build quality, these panels do have a higher up-front cost than conventional solar panels. However, in some settings, this is more than offset over time by the increased electricity that these panels can generate. Get in touch with Joju and we can advise you on whether this product would be a good fit for your specific requirements and circumstances. We can also provide you with a cost comparison for using this product in your solar PV setup, vs using other solar panels.

SunPower Performance Solar Panels
SunPower Performance solar panels were launched in 2015 and are designed to offer a mid-range product with a price point between the Maxeon solar panels and conventional panels. They have an efficiency of around 19% (compared to 16% for a conventional module).
Offering a good balance of efficiency and value for money, along with great aesthetics, SunPower Performance solar panels use innovative shingle cell technology, which helps to maximise the durability of these panels; they bend where cells from other panels can sometimes break. This helps to extend the life of every panel, hence the 25-year warranty that SunPower are able to offer on this product.
SunPower Performance solar panels can deliver up to 8% more energy over the first 25 years of the installation, compared to many conventional solar panels, using the same position and amount of space. With a cost that is only slightly above most conventional solar panels, we can advise on whether this product is one the best-suited to your setup.
