EV charging in public car parks

Ever since Joju Charging was set up to support the transition to electric vehicles, installing EV charging infrastructure in public car parks has been our bread and butter.

We’ve installed in hundreds of council car parks across the country, partnering with Dorset Council, Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council, Winchester City Council, Reading Borough Council, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Isle of Wight Council, New Forest District Council, Hampshire County Council and many more… and we’ve won multiple awards for our work.

In the beginning, our focus was on delivering a mix of lower powered chargers. Whilst we continue to install AC charge points, in recent years we’ve been installing DC charge points in greater numbers, and developing rapid and ultra rapid charging hubs for councils who want to offer drivers a quicker charge – to top up their battery in a short space of time.

With thousands of council-owned car parks, utilising some car parking spaces for electric vehicles is a straightforward way for local authorities to provide the volume of EV charge points needed, and this transformation is happening at pace.

SPOTLIGHT ON THE SEAM

A new digital campus has opened in Barnsley and it’s fantastic to be helping to charge it!

The Seam celebrates the town becoming the UK’s first government-backed Tech Town, the buildings are surrounded open space car parks, and we’ve been upgrading them with EV charging… a mix of fast and ultra-rapid bays.

It’s brilliant building on our work with Barnsley Metropolitan Council to bring robust EV Charging Infrastructure to the town.

Destination Charging

Destination charging is exactly as the name suggests… EV charge points installed in destinations like restaurants, supermarkets, garden centres, sports stadiums, shopping centres, and places drivers visit where they’re away from their car from between an hour and a few hours. This EV charging infrastructure allows drivers to charge whilst away, and on their return the car is nicely topped up and ready to go!

Due to the amount of time drivers spend away from their vehicles, destination chargers usually have a lower power rating than ‘en-route’ ones; generally, between 7kW - 50kW with a mix of AC and DC charge points.
